A lot has changed since the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s, but we all can agree that we still have a long way to go until we are truly equal. This past decade has seen police brutality, and the issue of racism in the country thrust back into the spotlight, by the deaths of UNARMED black men & woman. SAY THEIR NAMES, Travyon Martin, Tamir Rice, Micheal Brown, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd , and Breonna Taylor just to name a few. What do all these names have in common besides the obvious? Well if you didn’t know, all of their families are represented by one man, Benjamin Crump. Mr. Crump has been a part of some of the highest profile cases in recent memory including the FLINT WATER CRISIS, and JOHNSON & JOHNSON baby powder lawsuit. As his star continues to rise, we decided to take a look at the life and work of this CIVIL RIGHTS ICON.

Ben Crump was born on Oct. 10, 1969 , in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was the oldest of nine siblings, and raised by his grandmother. When he was a teenager he was sent to Florida to attended high school, and later he graduated and attended The University of Florida State, where he also attended the Collage of Law. Based out of Florida, he decided to focus on civil rights issues, like police brutality world wide, and representing the less fortunate. One of his early high-profile cases was that of Kendrick Johnson, a black student from Valdosta, Ga that died in the high school gym under suspicious circumstances. After that, Crump’s star started to rise in the law circles, and in 2012, he started representing the family of Travyon Martin.

The case of Travyon was a injustice that made a lot of people wake up, and the world would come to know the name of Ben Crump. Unfortunately, this kind of incidents have become more frequent, and when families need help getting answers, and demanding justice, he’s the go to guy. Well I hope that he see’s this article, as well as the others because there are injustices going on back home in southeastern North Carolina. I would like for him to know that similar to the FLINT WATER CRISIS, our people are being poisoned. These corporations do not care about our communities, so I would say to him that our civil rights have been violated, and HELP US GET JUSTICE!!!
